Nursery

Welcome to Nursery!

Children in Nursery learn best through play and we provide many opportunities for children to develop a range of skills through play-based activities, both indoors and outside. Alongside their play, we have several taught sessions each day. These vary throughout the week, including:
maths, phonics, literacy, circle time, investigation, expressive art and design and physical
education (PE).

PE is on Mondays. Please make sure your child has their PE kit on ready when they come to school. PE kit should include a t-shirt, a pair of shorts or jogging bottoms and a pair of trainers or plimsolls. Please ensure that children do not have any earrings in or jewellery on.

Children throughout school learn about our five school captains: Captain Resourceful, Captain Reciprocity, Captain Reflective, Captain Resilience and Captain Risk Taker. We encourage children to approach their learning like these captains and celebrate when children do this through giving house points and superhero stickers.

We believe reading at home and sharing a book with your child is very important for their language, imagination, empathy, confidence and eventually for their writing. We recommend you share a book at home at least three times a week and write this in your child’s reading diary. We will check reading diaries every Monday and if your child has read at home three or more times within the week, they will get a stamp on their reading bookmark. Once their bookmark is full, they will receive a new book of their choice to keep at home.

Our enquiry question this term is: ‘How do things grow?’ We will link our taught sessions and continuous provision activities to the enquiry as much as possible. Throughout this enquiry, we will be using a range of fiction and non-fiction books to help us explore growth. These include: ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘Daisy Eat Your Peas’ and ‘Rosa Explores Life Cycles.’ We will learn about the lifecycle of a butterfly, investigate how a seed turns into a plant, take part in some observational painting, learn about the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, explore healthy and unhealthy foods, and learn more about how to keep our teeth healthy.
