Throughout the year, we are trying to become more like our Captains – Captain Reciprocity, Captain Reflective, Captain Resilience and Captain Resourceful. This half term we are trying to be more awesome like Captain Resilience. We are going ensure that we are trying our hardest even where our learning is hard, and that we can think of solutions and have a positive attitude to our learning.
We will begin the half term by writing a motivational speech based upon Aiming High. We will be writing in character as ourselves in the future, giving advice and explaining how we achieved our goals. After that, we will be writing narratives based on the novel ‘The Silver Sword’. Later on this half term, we are lucky to be being visited by the Dragonbreath Theatre Company for a performance, and will write our own play scripts based on this. Finally, we will be studying war time poetry and writing our own based on the poems that we read.
Throughout the term, we will be studying place value in both positive and negative contexts. We will be revising our times table and using these to solve both numbers and word problems. By the end of the year, all children should know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12. As the term progresses, we will move onto fractions, decimals and percentages
This half term, we will be studying gravity and resistance, and taking part in experiments surrounding these. We will take part in a science week this half term, showcasing the skills we have learned through experiments and demonstrations.
This term, our topic is World War II. We will be designing and building Anderson shelters in D&T, and creating water colour paintings based on propaganda posters in our art lessons. In our music lessons, we will be looking at war time songs and creating some of our own. We will also be learning about the holocaust and the role of women in the war. In our geography lessons we will be identifying the allies and axis of Britain in World War II, and we will be learning about rationing in the wartime by creating our own menu based on rationed foods. In addition to this, we will be going ice skating weekly, as well as taking part in weekly P.E sessions in school.
