Children in nursery learn best through play and we provide many opportunities for children to develop a range of skills through play-based activities both indoors and outside. Alongside their play, we have several taught sessions- maths, phonics, literacy, circle time, investigation and physical education.
Children throughout school learn about our four school captains: Captain Resourceful, Captain Reciprocity, Captain Reflective and Captain Resilience. We encourage children to approach their learning like these characters and celebrate when children do this through giving house points and superhero certificates.
We believe reading at home and sharing a book with your child is very important for their language, imagination, empathy, confidence and eventually for their writing. We recommend you share a book at home at least three times a week and write this in your child’s reading diary. We will check reading diaries every Monday and if your child has read at home three or more times within the week, they will get a stamp on their reading bookmark. Once their bookmark is full, they will receive a new book of their choice to keep at home.
Our topic this half term is ‘Water’. We will link our taught sessions and continuous provision activities to the topic as much as possible. Throughout this topic, we will be looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction books to learn about water in different ways. We will be learning and performing a poem from the book ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. Also the children will be learning about looking after our environment and keeping our waters clean.
